I usually don't do silhouettes until the sun has either almost set or already set. If you don't block the sun then you get sun flare and the subjects won't be black enough. So, if the sun is still up, try to block it, it also gives a burst of light behind the one blocking it which looks pretty cool. I just wish the trees weren't in the frame.
